HE COULD LOVE ROWING MORE THAN YOU...
When a certain magazine was thrust under my nose on Saturday morning, by a friend who was laughing so much that she couldn't speak, I was forced to agree that some things just can't be allowed to pass un-reported, and it is for this reason that Underground has returned (briefly) from retirement to bring you exerts from this month's Shine Magazine.. For there within, suitably located on Page 69 is an article entitled "HOW TO MEET A BETTER CLASS OF MAN" which features the 'men' of Twickenham Rowing Club - and a EXCLUSIVE interview direct from the rather strange world of Local Luvvie, Mr David Lyon...
Underground is pleased to be able to bring you (completely without permission) the text of the article and I would like to point out that I have been VERY, VERY, VERY restrained...
THE ARTICLE...
rowing
What you need: Warm and comfortable clothes.
Why it's good for you: Rowing is a great all -round body toner. Have a go and you can look forward to a slimmer waist and hips, a flatter stomach and more toned bust. It's an aerobic sport so it helps to improve general fitness and, because you're outside, you should end up with lovely glowing sk n, too.
What type of man you'll meet: A truly dedicated one. Your average serious rower will train six days a week 'Rowing appeals to addictive, compulsive and obsessive personalities,' says David Lyon, 34, a member of Twickenham Rowing Club in London. I't's a mental as well as a physical sport.'Plus points: For one thing, He's going to have a fantastic body and, if you join the local women's novice team, there's loads of inter-team'bonding'to look forward to, 'My advice to women who want to meet men? Join Twickenham,' laughs David. 'We socialise very closely with the women's teams!'
Pitfalls: He could love rowing ( or himself???- ED) more than he loves you, 'Without exception, every guy in the crew has had at least one major relationship break-up due to rowing,'warns David.'Any woman meeting a rower needs to have an idea about the level of commitment involved with the sport - then there's the team-bonding and drinking that goes on afterwards.'
Cost: Club memberships vary from £100 to £150 a year.

'I've never been rowing before and it was absolutely amazing. I try to go to the gym three times a week, but I've been a bit slack recently, so it was great to actually get out there and try something a bit different.
'Rowing works out your whole body because you're using your legs as well as your arms, and I can definitely feel the effects, it's never really crossed my mind to find a bloke through working out, but these guys were all lovely. They've got fantastic bodies, too (ha hah haaaaaaa! - ED).
'When we went out on the river I was pretty warm because I had a sweat top on - but it must have been fairly cold for the men because we had a bit of an erect nipple situation going on! They're friendly, have a real laugh together and, apparently, they do a lot of partying after. I'm definitely thinking of taking it up and I'd recommend it to anyone,'![]()
