ROWING IN OUR EIGHT
(With apologies to Madness)

We like rowing in our eight, though our cox is overweight
We bought it for a costly sum from a bloke in Remenham
It was made in eighty-nine in a factory by the Rhine
It’s much better than our four, the L.R.C. owned it before
We want to row it in the Head, the Captain laughed, that’s all he said
But I don't really care, give me some oars and the open air

It's a bit old but it's mine, we mend it in our spare time
Just last week we fixed the gates, cleaned the slides and now it’s great
Just last week we fixed the gates
Last week we went through Richmond lock, we also had a little knock
We dented somebody's double, now they know our eight means trouble, ha ha ha

I've been rowing in our eight, hear the blade clunk in the gate
see the stroke increase the rate, we had her up to 38
We row it up to Teddington, down to Richmond then we’re done
The ARA stopped us today, they were mistaken what could I say
The heel-straps were a little worn, they were O.K., I could have sworn
We like rowing in our eight, I’m satisfied that I’m not late

We like rowing in our eight, though our cox is overweight
We like rowing in our eight, see the stroke increase the rate
We like rowing in our eight, hear the blade clunk in the gate
We like rowing in our eight, I’m satisfied that I’m not late
